WHIPWHIP Funds to be Allocated WHIP is a voluntary program that encourages the creation of high quality wildlife habitats that support wildlife populations on private, National, State, and Tribal land. Through WHIP, the NRCS provides technical and financial assistance to landowners and others to develop upland, wetland, riparian, and aquatic habitat areas on their property.
Alabama Receives $440,000 for the WHIP Program Auburn, Ala., Feb. 10, 2005 - USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is taking applications for the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP). Alabama received $440,000 to fund the program in 2005. WHIP is a voluntary program for people who want to develop and improve wildlife habitat. Applications are accepted through a continuous sign-up process. Applications may be obtained and filed at any time with local USDA Service Centers or conservation district offices. Common practices for WHIP include establishing habitat for bobwhite quail, prescribed burning of timberland to improve wildlife habitat, and planting hardwoods and longleaf pines. To ensure consistent and efficient WHIP implementation, applications will be evaluated against a competitive ranking system. Contact the local field office for criteria information. The first batching period for WHIP applications for fiscal 2005 is close of business on March 25, 2005. Applications received by that date will be considered for 2005 funding.
